‘’The rise of mega ships and flags of convenience’’
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is a specialized United Nations agency responsible for regulating and coordinating international shipping. Its primary mission is to promote safe, secure, and environmentally responsible shipping practices worldwide. The IMO sets and enforces global standards for vessel safety, security, and pollution prevention, playing a crucial role in the maritime industry's sustainability and safety.
The expansion of megaships in the shipping industry refers to the trend of building increasingly larger and more massive container vessels. This shift is driven by the desire to achieve economies of scale, reduce transportation costs, and accommodate the growing global demand for goods, but it also presents challenges related to port infrastructure, environmental concerns, and logistics management.
Flags of convenience (FoC) is a practice in the shipping industry where vessels are registered in countries other than their owners' home countries to take advantage of more lenient regulations and lower costs. These flags, often known as "open registries," can result in reduced taxation, minimal labor and safety standards, and less regulatory oversight, raising concerns about the exploitation of these flags to evade responsibilities and cut costs.

‘’Wars of the Roses’’
The Wars of the Roses (1455-85), in English history, was a string of dynastic civil wars that erupted before the Tudors' stronghold of power. The House of York and the House of Lancaster, both descended from the venerable royal Plantagenet family, engaged in a series of brutal civil wars to claim the throne of England. The Wars of the Roses were dubbed and got their flowery name, many years later after the fictitious symbols of the opposing sides: red rose as the emblem for Lancastrians and white rose for the Yorks. The battles concluded and a new royal dynasty appeared after 30 years of political scheming, terrible devastation, and brief intervals of peace.
In this Joint Crisis Committee, as we delve into this agenda item, commanders and leaders of both the Houses of Lanchester and York are expected to relive this pivotal moment in history, showcasing the complexities of warfare and diplomacy.
