Agenda Item: Preventing the Usage of Outer Space for Military Purposes and Promoting Cooperation Regarding the Peaceful Exploration of Space
United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, UNOOSA, is a specialized agency of the United Nations that disseminates the pacific use of outer space for the good of all mankind. It seeks the collaboration of countries through establishment of international guidelines and policies that prevent the militarization of space. UNOOSA plays a very important role in maintaining outer space as a conflict-free zone and making the process of exploration and utilization of outer space available to all nations, irrespective of their size and technological capability. The committee also helps in overseeing agreements like the Outer Space Treaty, which tries to ensure that space is used only for peaceful purposes and not for military purposes or placing weapons. While beginning "Preventing the Usage of Outer Space for Military Purposes and Promoting Cooperation Regarding the Peaceful Exploration of Space," the focus shall rest on how countries can work together, build trust, and set long-term rules for peaceful exploration.
Agenda Item: The Middle East Conflict
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was created in 1949 by the United States, Canada, and several Western European nations to provide collective security against the Soviet Union. NATO was the first peacetime military alliance the United States entered into outside of the Western Hemisphere. After the destruction of the Second World War, the nations of Europe struggled to rebuild their economies and ensure their security. The former required a massive influx of aid to help the war-torn landscapes re-establish industries and produce food, and the latter required assurances against a resurgent Germany or incursions from the Soviet Union. The United States viewed an economically strong, rearmed, and integrated Europe as vital to the prevention of communist expansion across the continent. As a result, Secretary of State George Marshall proposed a program of large-scale economic aid to Europe. The resulting European Recovery Program, or Marshall Plan, not only facilitated European economic integration but promoted the idea of shared interests and cooperation between the United States and Europe. Soviet refusal either to participate in the Marshall Plan or to allow its satellite states in Eastern Europe to accept the economic assistance helped to reinforce the growing division between east and west in Europe.
Agenda Item: Improving the EU's Security and Defense Policies
As tensions continue to rise across the globe and within Europe, and as new conflicts and wars begin to emerge, the European Union is increasingly finding itself in a position of over-dependability on the United States of America and North Atlantic Treaty Organization. In light of the increasing possibility of the EU facing an attack from a foreign power, it is imperative to prioritize the bolstering of the EU's domestic defensive capabilities, while also focusing on strengthening its alliances and partnerships with the US and NATO. This is essential to secure the survival of the European Union in the face of potential threats. It is now the duty of the commissioners to ensure the security of the European Union and the people of Europe. Will the commissioners manage to accomplish this challenging duty?
Agenda Item: Abortion
The United States Senate will be discussing Abortion, which has been high on the national agenda since the Supreme Court decision “Roe v. Wade (1973)”, which ruled that states cannot restrict a person's right to abortion, was recently overturned by the Supreme Court. Since then, every state decided on its own abortion laws and the topic became an important point in the Presidential Election campaigns of both sides of the political spectrum.
Agenda Item: Assassination of John F. Kennedy
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is the domestic intelligence and security service of the United States. On July 26, 1908 Attorney General of the United States Charles J. Bonaparte appointed an unnamed task force which evolved into the Federal Bureau of Investigation, to fight crime in the already growing USA. For this committee delegates will take roles from different branches of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to investigate the assasination of President John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States of America, who had served for 2 years before being assassinated in Dallas.
